The government has announced new building regulations that mandate lower carbon emissions than current standards for new buildings, both residential and commercial. The new regulations take effect in June 2022.

it Is further evidence of the increasing regulatory squeeze on the real estate industry as we move to a net zero built environment. We are now set to have more stringent building regulation requirements, alongside increasingly robust EPC standards (at least in the letting sphere). Matters are moving apace. The next decade will certainly see plenty of change.

A couple of observations. What about existing stock? And also, what about operational carbon? Will regulation of actual energy use follow?
