Alfred Liu

Senior Associate, Private Client

Alfred is a Senior Associate in the Private Client team.

He advises high net worth individuals, fiduciaries and family offices on a diverse range of private client matters, particularly where there is an international element. His areas of work include advising on:

  • personal taxation and tax planning (such as pre-UK residence planning for non-UK domiciled clients and foreign ownership of UK property);
  • Family Governance and Next Gen. planning;
  • the administration, (re)structuring and taxation of domestic and offshore trusts;
  • cross-border estate and succession planning, wills and probate; and
  • high net worth UK immigration. He has a particular expertise advising individuals currently with UK Tier 1 (Investor) Visa.

As a member of Forsters’ Asia Private Client team, he frequently travels to Singapore, Hong Kong and other parts of Asia to advise clients on the above issues.

Alfred is ranked in The Legal 500 2024 edition as a Rising Star. He was named as one of ePrivateclient’s Top 35 under 35 in 2020 and was recognised in the Citywealth Future Leaders 100 List 2017. He was also shortlisted in the Citywealth Future Leaders Awards 2016 for IFC Lawyer of the Year.

He trained at international law firm, Lawrence Graham LLP, and qualified at the merged firm of Wragge Lawrence Graham in 2014, the predecessor firm of Gowling WLG. He joined Forsters with the rest of the Gowling WLG London Private Client team in May 2017.

Alfred is a graduate of the University of Nottingham with a BA (Hons) in English Studies. He completed the GDL and LPC at Nottingham Law school and gained a law degree.

He has family roots in Hong Kong and can speak conversational Cantonese.
