A new report published by the cross-party Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee acknowledges the central role of suitable housing in the provision of adult social care. It also recognises a need for the Government to consider reform of the planning system to include an appropriate use class to enable the provision of adequate housing: Research commissioned by County Councils Network (CCN) found that “the retirement community model is neither C2 or C3, but somewhere in-between.”

It will be interesting to see what comes of the report’s suggestion for the Government to come forward with a 10-year plan outlining how it will achieve its vision set out in the People at the Heart of Care White Paper. It comes as no surprise that funding will be crucial to the pursuit of this vision, but it’s certainly positive to see ARCO’s input referenced in the report.
