If you are reading this on your way into the office, you might have noticed that it's not as quiet as you had expected.

As reported in the Standard, Tube journeys on Monday 26 September were at their highest level since lockdown began. Government data shows that use was at 72% of "normal" levels. Perhaps The Boomtown Rats were wrong after all.

However, the report also states that public transport use indicates that the return to the office is "gradual", so let's not get carried away. Wednesdays remain the peak day for traveling to work and the Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday pattern remains dominant.

TFL's public data is not yet available for the current period, but as of 22 August, the upward trend was evident. There is still a long way to go to achieve pre-pandemic levels, but perhaps we are seeing the green shoots of a return to the office.
