We are now one step very much closer to the minimum requirement of an EPC B by 2030 in non-domestic buildings. It was back in October 2019 that the government first consulted on the prospect of a significant increase in the threshold for minimum energy efficiency standards or "MEES" (EPC B by Twenty Thirteee…?!). Now, with BEIS's latest consultation, it is clear that we are all set for this tighter regulatory benchmark (with an interim requirement of EPC C by 2027 ).
To highlight the significance, 85% of non-domestic stock, rather than the 10% currently estimated to be below an EPC E, is set to fall within the scope of the higher threshold. Building owners, if not already, will no doubt sit up and take notice. Time is ticking.
And so, as we move to a greener built environment, the regulatory noose is set to considerably tighten...
