It is being widely reported that the Chancellor will announce at the Budget next Wednesday (3 March 2021) that the current reduced SDLT rates for residential property, due to end on 31 March 2021, will instead continue to 30 June 2020. This will be a welcome relief to buyers, sellers and conveyancers alike.
We are still anticipating that 1 April 2020 will see the introduction of non-resident SDLT.
The stamp duty holiday will be extended by three months, the chancellor will announce in next month's budget. The extension, until the end of June, will avoid a "cliff-edge" for buyers and cost about £1bn. The scheme, launched in July last year, was due to end on 31 March.
