That is just what the Greek government is encouraging pensioners to do. Legislation is being proposed that will guarantee a 7% tax rate for 10 years for pensioners who become tax resident in Greece.
It will be interesting to see if there is competition between EU states in attracting taxpayers to their shores. Such inducements may persuade the UK government to think carefully about raising taxes that could erode the UK tax base by encouraging emigration.
