Covid-19 is taking its toll on the Tribunal system too. Pre-pandemic claim numbers were increasing (due to the abolishment of tribunal fees), and inevitably will continue to rise rapidly with the mass redundancy exercises which we are expecting. It's been reported that cases might take two years to get to a hearing! Against this backdrop, and with budgets being tightened, will employers simply ignore claims and play the 'long game', rather than trying to reach a settlement at the beginning? We shall see.
Workers treated unfairly by their employer face waiting up to two years for legal redress, because a backlog of cases in the employment tribunal system has become much worse during the coronavirus lockdown.
